Team meeting with Duncan Brown

Useful meeting with Duncan Brown from CSD this morning, in which we invited his comments on our draft Project Plan. Some outcomes and suggestions as follows:

  • Idea for dealing with Google Custom Search API’s current quota of 100 free requests per day
  • Consider pre-population of database by using a service running in the background; likely to be quicker than relying on live searching across domains. The search engine will then first query the database before deciding whether to launch a new request to Google CSE
  • Design UI to include a mechanism to allow users to mark  individual results as “no longer available/valid
  • Design UI to include a mechanism to allow users to mark duplicate/similar resources

Revising the Project Plan

This week we met with Alastair Dunning, our JISC Programme Manager and have been working on the ENGrich project plan. In particular we have been:

  • revisiting the data flow diagram presented in our original proposal
  • considering how and when to start building a student community to inform the development of the site
  • firming up a bit on terminology
  • thinking in a bit more detail how we might encourage and record user interactions with the displayed results
  • looking at incoming and outgoing IP issues, constraints and assumptions in the Project Plan

We have also set up this WordPress website – thanks to our colleagues in Computing Services for their help.
